Applying to the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program

1. How many residents in your program?

There is a total of 28 residents, 7/year.
 
2. How do I apply to the program?
Applications to our residency program are only accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

3. What are the requirements to apply to the program?
A minimum of 3 letters of recommendation
Dean’s Letter and Medical School transcripts
USMLE Board Scores
 
4. What is your USMLE or COMLEX-USA cut-off score?
A score of at least 240 on USMLE Step 2, or 600 on COMLEX-USA Level 2 is preferred.
 
5. Do you have a medical school graduation date cut-off?
Most residents start their first year of radiology residency training (PGY-2) within 5 years of graduating from medical school.
 
6. When is the application deadline?
The application deadline is November 1^st and applications are only accepted through ERAS.
 
7. Does your program accept International Medical Graduates (IMG’s)?

Yes, qualified graduates of medical schools in the US or Canada must have attended a medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).

Graduates of U.S. colleges of Osteopathic Medicine must have attended a medical school accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).

Graduates of medical schools outside the United States and Canada must have a current valid ECFMG Certificate and a passing grade on the CSA examination from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates. Being ECFMG Certificate eligible pending Medical School Diploma will suffice.
 
8. What is the NY State Department of Education 12-week rule?

An applicant who is expected to graduate (or has graduated) from a non-LCME accredited international medical school or U.S. sponsored foreign medical school must satisfy New York State’s 12-week rule in order to be eligible to participate in a medical residency/fellowship training program in New York State, as follows:

An individual who graduates from a non-LCME accredited international medical school may not train in New York State if his/her medical school education includes more than 12 weeks of clinical clerkship rotations outside of the country in which his/her medical school is located.

For purposes of counting clinical rotation time that occurred outside of the country in which an applicant’s medical school is located, only rotations that are required for the applicant’s medical education degree should be considered. The NY State Department of Education has approved a list of schools that are excluded from this general rule.

9. Do I Need to Sign Up for the USA Selective Service for this Residency?

Yes. It is mandatory for all male candidates who are US citizens (and immigrants who came to the US before age 26) to have signed up for the US Selective Service between the ages of 18 and 26 as a prerequisite to work at any federal facility including the Veteran Affairs Medical Centers. 10. What type of visa is offered?

Our program sponsors J-1 visas and will accept those individuals with Permanent Resident status (green card) and on some occasions, those with an employment authorization document (work permit). H1B visas are not sponsored.

11. Do you require USA Clinical Experience?
US clinical experience is preferred, but is not mandatory.
 
12. How do I verify residency or fellowship training?
All training verifications are handled by our Graduate Medical Education Office. Please contact Eva Goodwin at GoodwinE@pottrocker.net
 
13. When are interviews conducted?
Interviews are conducted on select Tuesday’s and Thursday's beginning in October and continuing through December. The Residency Program Director reviews all applications. The final decision for interviews is based on the information that is provided in the ERAS application.
